Breastfeeding Protects Against Infection [Article in Bosnian]

Abstract

Breastfeeding is superior to infant formula feeding, it has many advantages because it protects neonates against infections when the immune system is immature. Breast milk has special components that provide immunologic protection and a beneficial effect on intestinal flora. Through bioactive factors in human milk breastfeeding strengthens the host defences against: sepsis, respiratory, gastrointestinal and urinary infections. The protective effect of breastfeeding against infections is fundamental for breastfeeding sup­port and promotion as the best food for neonates.
