Psychodynamic approach to childhood anorexia nervosa [Article in Croatian]

Vesna Vidović

Abstract

Anorexia nervosa although usually found in adolescents recently has often been diagnosed in children. The etiology is not fully understood but is probably multifactorial and important factors are related to biological substrate. Psychodynamic approach to anorexia nervosa in childhood especially from object relation theory shows no particular difference between processes in development of eating disorders in childhood and adolescence. However, some children are reluctant to admit fear of fatness or other typical symptoms of anorexia so that we need the full co-operation of parents in diagnostic procedure. In treatment weight restoration and psychotherapy, particularly family therapy is most important.
