Precocious puberty [Article in Croatian]

Gordana Stipančić

Abstract

Precocious puberty is the appearance of physical and hormonal signs of pubertal development at an earlier age that is considered normal. Onset of puberty before age 9 years for boys, and before age 8 years for girls is considered precocious. Precocious puberty is classified as gonadotropin dependent (central) and gonadotropin independent (periferal). Early onset of puberty can cause several problems like short adult stature and emotional distress for some children. The most important criterion for the decision to initiate therapy is the progression of pubertal development.
